What to know about Crescendo Dance Academy's Auditions Process
What are dance auditions like at Crescendo Dance Academy?
Our goal is to make dance as welcoming and encouraging as possible! We want every student to feel confident showcasing their talent. Auditions aren’t about deciding who’s “good enough”—they’re about understanding your dancer’s current technique, conditioning, and attitude, so we can highlight their strengths and help them grow. Auditions typically include a warm-up, learning a short routine, and performing in small groups. Depending on age and level, dancers may also be asked to freestyle or demonstrate specific techniques solo.
What do you need to prepare for the audition?
Bring appropriate dance attire (usually form-fitting clothing), proper shoes (ballet, jazz, or lyrical shoes, depending on the studio), water, and a positive attitude. Some studios may ask dancers to prepare a short solo in advance or provide a headshot and resume.
What should I expect at the audition?
You’ll start with a warm-up, then learn a short routine in a specific style (or multiple styles). Dancers perform the routine in small groups. Teachers may give on-the-spot corrections to see how well you respond to feedback.
What are the teachers looking for?
Teachers will evaluate technique, musicality, stage presence, effort, ability to pick up choreography, and how well a dancer works with others. Confidence, focus, and a willingness to learn much more important than perfect execution!
